speaking

As a counsellor, I am available to speak at your club, event, organization, conference, or school. I create my talks with the audience in mind, using humour and story telling and leaving participants with tangible take-aways to enhance their lives.

Below are examples of presentations that I give – but I am happy to tailor something to your needs.

Self-Care for Self-Confidence: Are you looking for an understanding of self-care that takes into consideration the multiple roles that you play? Do you want to increase your self-confidence in a way that will positively impact those around you? In this presentation, you will learn how to become a role model – for both the adults and the children in your life – by taking charge of your self-care. Focused on unpacking what healthy self-care looks like from a holistic approach, this presentation will leave you feeling energized to make simple, effective changes in your life.

Compassion Fatigue: If you work in a caregiving role, you've most likely experienced compassion fatigue. According to Dr. Charles Figley, who coined the term, compassion fatigue is the "extreme state of tension and preoccupation with the suffering of those being helped to the degree that it can create a secondary traumatic stress for the helper." If you've ever reached the point of imbalance – wherein you're losing sleep, lashing out, or feeling frustrated – from helping others, this presentation is for you. In this workshop, you will learn how to use authentic and sustainable self-care practices to help yourself make positive change. Attention is given to identifying coping strategies you can use to build your resiliency, leaving you with practical tools to take into your everyday personal and professional lives.

Body Image: Do you wish you could get through just one day without feeling "not good enough" in your body?  Do you constantly look at your body in reflective surfaces and wish you looked any way other than how you do right now? You're not alone – but you also can make change toward a happier, healthier you. Using a HAES-based lens, we will explore how to shift away from negative body image thoughts to a more balanced approach. Find out how your body image affects your self-esteem and what you can do to start creating change!

Disordered Eating: Stop and ask yourself: How often in your life have you been on a diet – and has this yo-yo existence actually made you happier? Whether you're tired of trying every diet out there, struggling with the restrict/binge cycle, or feeling guilt and shame when you eat "bad food," this presentation is for you. This presentation will give you the opportunity to learn the signs of disordered eating (it's more common than you think!) so that you can recognize them in yourself and start to create a plan to move toward true food freedom.
